Day 8 – The Brick

The Brick are a growing project who work to offer practical help with housing, health, wellbeing and skills across Wigan and Leigh. 

They do so many things to support the community including running a responsive street outreach service, and providing emergency, temporary and specialist supported accommodation.

As its name suggests, they act as a solid building block for people who are experiencing homelessness, are in poverty or facing debt crisis, to construct a new life.

What do they need?

New underwear for both men and women.

How can you get it to them?

It would be amazing if you could drop it off with them at St George’s, Water Street, Wigan, WN1 1DN.

 

Day 9 – The Jesuscina Foundation

The Jesuscina Foundation provides much needed relief to migrants who want to settle down in the UK and anyone who is socially disadvantaged. 

They offer translation services as well as help with CV writing, job searching and interview skills. They also have a community fridge which is open every Monday from 10am to 12pm.

What do they need?

Any kind of tinned food!

Day 10 – Red Door

Red Door is a Caritas Project which aims to ensure people in Bury have the support they need when facing homelessness. 

In parallel with delivering direct housing outcomes, they aim to enable people to improve their mental and physical wellbeing by providing access to health services, education, training, volunteering opportunities and employment.

You can also count on them for advice, signposting, laundry and showering facilities, and hot meals.

What do they need?

They would love any individually wrapped cakes and biscuits!

How can you get it to them?

Day 11 – Mustard Tree 

Mustard Tree combat poverty and prevent homelessness in Manchester and Salford. They work to create opportunities for people to help themselves through providing practical support, friendship, connections into work, and improvements to health and wellbeing.

What do they need?

Selection boxes of chocolate, big or small!

Day 12 – The Bread and Butter Thing

The Bread and Butter Thing runs 50 mobile food clubs across the North West, helping low-income families access top quality food at deeply discounted prices. Their hope is that it means parents can afford to feed their children and pensioners can put their heating on.

What do they need?

Drivers and volunteers at their Trafford warehouse to help keep Manchester fed this Christmas.

Day 13 – The Bond Board

The Bond Board exists to reduce homelessness by getting people on low incomes into private rented accommodation. They provide Bond Guarantees for tenancies in place of cash deposits, and provide security for landlords. Additionally, they offer a range of support services for private rented tenants and landlords – designed to make a tenancy manageable and sustainable to prevent repeat homelessness.

What do they need?

Hot water bottles!

Day 14 – Boaz Trust

People seeking asylum have fled persecution and insecurity, but all too often they can end up homeless and destitute here in the UK. Boaz Trust provide shared accommodation and specialist 1:1 support for people who have become homeless after claiming asylum.

What do they need?

Mens hats, gloves and scarves.
