The Street Support Give Help Campaign launches in the West Midlands
Did you know today is #GivingTuesday ?
It seems a perfect day to launch our Street Support West Midlands #GiveHelp campaign.
Organisations across the region have listed what they need, be it items, time, or funding to help prevent people from becoming homeless, or to support them on their journey out of homelessness…
So, what are the key ways to help in the West Midlands?
Money
With the cost of living becoming harder for people, it is definitely more difficult to give financially to those who are in need. However, if you are in the position to help in this way, one of the main ways to support people out of homelessness across the West Midlands is through the region’s alternative giving provision.
In Birmingham, Dudley, Coventry, Sandwell, Solihull and Walsall, this is called
Change into Action and in Wolverhampton, you can find this provision through the Alternative Giving CIO. These schemes ensure that funds go directly to the organisations supporting rough sleepers
Items
There are lots of charities and services across the West Midlands that are in need of donations of items such as non-perishable food, clothing, toiletries, kitchenware etc to be given straight to those who are in need of it.
Foodbanks are the main type of service that are always in need of food, and toiletries and there will always be a foodbank close to you. In the West Midlands, the biggest foodbanks are run by The Trussell Trust and by the Black Country Foodbank.
Time
Offering your time through volunteering can be invaluable especially in the charity sector. Some charities could not even exist without the support, hard work and generosity of time given by the volunteering community.
Volunteering opportunities include food preparation, befriending, and advocating. Many volunteers bring their expertise and knowledge to the table. Qualified professionals such as GPs, Opticians, Hairdressers, Teachers, have helped provide health advice, free haircuts, and education in their free time. If you can listen, if you can wash a cup, if you can share a skill, whatever you have to give, your time is so appreciated.
