Imagine being stuck on someone’s sofa for ages, or maybe bouncing from friend to friend’s house, never having a proper place to call your own. That’s what homelessness can be like, not just sleeping rough on the streets.
Since the 1990s, SCAH (Solihull Churches Action on Homelessness) has been a total lifesaver for people in Solihull facing this struggle. They’re a registered charity, which means they rely on awesome people like you to keep doing their amazing work.
SCAH doesn’t just help those without a roof – they’re there for anyone who’s feeling vulnerable, like people escaping a tough situation at home or leaving prison. Homelessness can look different from person to person. SCAH know even little things can make a huge difference, so they give out “home starter packs” with essential stuff like bedding, pots and pans, plates, and cups – things you wouldn’t even think twice about if you had your own place, as they are easily taken for granted..
Last year alone, SCAH helped 260 adults and 100 children make a fresh start! That’s brilliant!
They work in partnership with local councils and support groups, so they can respond to people in need really quickly. In fact, thanks to their amazing volunteers who put together and deliver these starter packs, they can get help out within a day or two!
In July 2024, they helped 15 adults and 12 kids get a fresh start and they were able to give out around 10 home starter packs. That’s pretty incredible! And guess what? They’re always on the lookout for more amazing people to join their team!
Here’s how you can be a hero:
- Donate: Each home starter pack costs around £230 to put together so every bit counts! Even a tenner can help SCAH keep doing their brilliant stuff.
- Spread the Word: Tell your friends, your family, your networks, share it on social media – the more people who know about SCAH, the more they can help!
SCAH is an incredibly efficient charity, with hardly any costs each year. So, pretty much everything you donate goes straight to helping people in need.
