It’s not always easy to know how to help when someone is facing homelessness. Across the West Midlands, more than 300 organisations are working every day to prevent people from losing their homes, to support those who are already without one, and to make sure no one has to experience homelessness again. Each organisation plays a vital role: some provide meals or emergency accommodation, while others focus on longer-term support such as training, health care, or help finding a stable home. By strengthening prevention work and supporting people early, we can reduce the number of individuals reaching crisis point where even the basics are missing.
Many of these groups depend on the kindness and involvement of local people to keep their work going. There are simple, meaningful ways to make a difference: donating essential items, volunteering your time, or helping to fund services and projects that change lives.
Street Support West Midlands makes it easier to find out how. The platform connects communities and organisations, helping people to give and find help in ways that truly meet local needs. Find out how you can give help below.

Alongside these local networks, there are two larger platforms helping people find opportunities that match their skills and interests.
Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) launched a new national volunteering platform in autumn 2025, bringing together a wide range of opportunities—from supporting older people to helping in hospitals and community hubs. It’s designed to make volunteering simple, accessible, and flexible for everyone. You can explore current roles at royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk.
Do IT is another helpful online platform where charities and community groups advertise thousands of volunteering roles across the country, including many in the West Midlands. It’s a great place to search by location, interest, or time commitment.

Together, these networks and platforms make it easier than ever to get involved, give your time, and strengthen the communities that make the West Midlands such a generous and connected place to live.
